This page lists the grants Nox Medical has received:

Ergonomic Sleep Recorder

Nox Medical received a grant from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund (Tækniþróunarsjóður) in 2010 to extend its product portfolio to include ambulatory polysomnography (PSG).  The project name is Icelandic, “Hagkvæmt svefnskráningartæki” which means in English “Ergonomic Sleep Recorder”.  Nox Medical marketed in 2009 the Nox T3 polygraph recorder which is a third generation sleep recorder designed with the comfort and needs of both adult and pediatric patients in mind.  Polygraph as home monitoring has become the standard diagnostic method for sleep disordered breathing in large portions of the European market and the US market has been developing towards doing more home polygraphs in the resent years.  PSG studies are however still largely done in clinics and ambulatory PSG studies are still uncommon.  This is partially due to the complexity of the study and uncomfortable technology used.  In this project Nox Medical aims to take the first steps towards a new generation of ambulatory PSG recorders that will focus on increasing the ergonomics and comfort of the PSG recordings and by doing so, make ambulatory PSG studies more feasible alternative to attended studies done in the clinic.

Disposable Respiratory Sensor

Nox Medical received a grant from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund (Tækniþróunarsjóður) in 2009 to develop a disposable sensor product line for sleep disordered breathing.  The project name is Icelandic, “Einnota öndunarskynjari” which means in English “Disposable Respiratory Sensor”.  In the world of sleep, there is an increased demand for disposable accessories, due to increased awareness of hygiene, cross infections, quality and cost of studies.  In this project new types of disposable sensors were developed that are aimed for sleep disordered breathing studies and polysomnography (PSG) studies.  These sensor products are expected to increase the efficiency and add value to the study for users of the Nox T3 sleep recorder as well as for other Nox Medical related sleep products.

Sleep Recorder for Pediatrics

Nox Medical received a grant from the Icelandic Technology Development Fund (Tækniþróunarsjóður) in 2006 for developing of the Nox T3 Polygraph Recorder and Noxturnal Diagnostic Software.  The project name is Icelandic, “Svefngreiningartæki fyrir börn” which means in English “Sleep Recorder for Pediatrics”. In the last few years there has been an increased awareness of the negative influence of untreated sleep disorders in children on both their cognitive and physical function and development.  Recent publications demonstrate the high prevalence of sleep disorders in children.  Pediatric sleep recordings are however still uncommon, compared with adult sleep recordings, mostly due to the complexity of the study and the sensitivity of the patients.  The past generations of sleep recorders where not designed with the needs of children in mind and this has made pediatric sleep studies both difficult and fragile.

The T3 recorder was designed with the comfort and needs of both adults and pediatrics in mind.  The recorder is a third generation polygraph recorder, based on wireless sensor networks and integration of sensors into small units, compared with the second generation products that were based on wired sensors and larger recording units.  The project was completed successfully with the launch of the Nox T3 system in March 2009 and has since then been distributed effectively in both EU and in the USA.
